PaperPage Privacy Policy
In short: PaperPage has no servers of its own and does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. Your papers, highlights, and notes stay on your device. If you choose to sign in with Google, backups are stored in your own Google Drive, and the developer cannot access them.
1. Data stored on your device
To provide its features, PaperPage stores the following data locally, in the app's private storage on your device:
- The location (file path), title, page count, and thumbnail of each PDF you open
- Highlights, notes (memos), bookmarks, folders, and reading progress
- Text extracted from your PDFs (including OCR results), cached to speed up loading
- App settings such as language, font, and colors
PDF text extraction and text recognition (OCR) are performed on your device. The contents of your PDFs are not sent to the developer or to any server operated by the developer.
2. Optional Google sign-in and Google Drive backup
You can use PaperPage without signing in. If you choose to sign in with Google:
- The app receives your Google account name, email address, and profile photo, and uses them only to show which account you are signed in with.
- The app requests the
drive.filepermission, which gives it access only to files that PaperPage itself creates in your Drive. It cannot see your other Drive files. - While you are signed in, the app automatically syncs your changes to a file named
paperpage_backup.jsonin your Google Drive, creating it if needed. You can also sync manually with the sync button. The file contains paper titles, file paths, reading progress, highlighted text, notes, bookmarks, and deletion records (an identifier and time for each highlight or bookmark you delete, so the deletion also applies on your other devices). It does not contain the PDF files themselves. - This data goes directly between your device and Google. The developer never receives it. Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy.
3. Third-party services
- Google Fonts: When you choose certain reading fonts, the app downloads the font files from Google's servers. As with any web request, Google can see your IP address.
- Google ML Kit: Text recognition runs on your device. ML Kit sends Google diagnostic and usage information (device model and OS version, app version, a per-installation identifier, performance metrics, and error codes) over HTTPS, but not the text or images being processed. See ML Kit terms.
- Text-to-speech: Read-aloud uses the speech engine installed on your device (for example, Google's speech services). That engine's privacy policy applies.
- Web search and sharing: These run only when you tap them. Web search opens the selected text as a Google search in your browser. Sharing sends the selected text to the app you pick.
4. What we do not do
- No advertising, and no analytics or tracking tools used by the developer (the ML Kit diagnostics described above go to Google, not to the developer)
- No crash reporting sent to the developer
- No sale or sharing of personal data with third parties
5. Deleting your data
PaperPage has no developer server and no in-app accounts, so there is nothing to request from the developer. You can delete your PaperPage data yourself:
- To delete a paper and its highlights, notes, and bookmarks from your device, remove it in the app. To delete all local data, uninstall the app. Your original PDF files are not deleted. If you use Google Drive sync, a removed paper's highlights, notes, and bookmarks stay in the Drive backup so they come back if you add the same PDF again.
- To delete the backup, delete
paperpage_backup.jsonfrom your Google Drive. - To remove PaperPage's access to your Google account, sign out in the app, or remove it at Google Account → Third-party connections.
Retention: The developer does not keep any copy of your data. Data on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. The Google Drive backup is kept until you delete it. Diagnostic information sent to Google by ML Kit is retained by Google under Google's own policies. If you need help, email soyeong.lis020@gmail.com.
6. Children
PaperPage is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
